Semonkong Lodge

Semonkong is raw Africa at its best. The mighty Maletsunyane Falls, one of the highest single dropping waterfalls in Africa, creates a haze of smoke as the water plummets 186 metres into a spectacular gorge. It is from this smoke that Semonkong – The Place of Smoke – gets its name. THE longest commercial abseil in the world...Adrenaline junkies: drop 204m (670 ft)into the famous haze of smoke created by the waterfall. This is THE longest commercially operated single-drop abseil in the world as stated by Guinness World Records. The lodge offers an A la carte restaurant with the most scrumptious meals and once you have driven that road to get there - you wonder how they do it. Jonathan Halse, the owner obviously from trading store stock, with his wife Armelle is the reason.

The accommodation, built of stone and thatch, offers just the right balance of rustic elegance; electricity and hot showers.

Location

Semonkong lodge is situated at the end of the road that goes past Roma and Ramabanta in the highlands of Lesotho. In some places on this route the altitude is over 3000 metres. The lodge is situated on the Maletsunyane River, a few kilometres upstream before it descends into the gorge.
