Moorosi Chalets is a fully-sustainable community owned lodge in Southern Lesotho.

Introduction

The lodge forms part of a partnership between the Quthing Wildlife Development Trust(QWDT), Malealea Tours (Glenn Jones) and Malealea Lodge (Mick Jones). Moorosi Chalets is a community-run lodge and managed by a local Basotho, Ralitsa and his wife and two children. Mick lives in Zastron, in the free state, but pops in from time to time. For a great personal experience, contact Mick directly, who has a wealth of knowledge of the area and Lesotho for some guided hikes. There are some of the best bushman painting sites as well as incredible day hikes. The Chalets offer warm, basotho hospitality and will ensure a pleasant stay. With pure spring water gravity fed down the mountainside,no electricity and no cellphones, the chalets provide the perfect opportunity to explore Southern Lesotho and unwind in a beautiful setting. The region is just waiting to be explored and guided hiking to waterfalls, bushmen paintings and other interesting places are on offer. The Chalets provide a good overnight base for trans-Lesotho trips, especially between Malealea Lodge and Qachas Nek/Sehlabathbe.

Location

The Chalets are situated in Southern Lesotho about 10km outside the town of Mount Moorosi in the Quthing River Valley. They are situated directly beneath the famous "Thaba Moorosi" - the ex-stronghold of Chief Moorosi who resisited British Rule in the great Moorosi War of 1879.
