Top Destinations in Lesotho
Read what some Getaway Journalists had to say about Lesotho:
"Give me a choice between the sea and mountains, and I'll head straight
for the hills. That's why my first choice for a summer holiday is the
wild highland region of southern Lesotho. It's a place where you can
choose your own adventure: pioneer a new mountain bike trail or fish
for giant rainbow trout in mountain streams. Hike to forgotten
waterfalls with laughing herdboys as your guides or go pony trekking
for days on end.

Bring all your friends, mountain bikes, fishing tackle, hiking boots,
and plenty of warm clothes – even in summer the pure mountain air can
get rather nippy at night. There's seldom any cell phone
reception either, so it's a good idea to have a back-up plan and
someone looking out for you.
Because it's less developed and still unknown, southern Lesotho sees
far fewer tourists than the north, but there are some excellent
accommodation options. Try Ramabanta and Semonkong lodges for rustic
elegance and fully licensed restaurants, Malealea Lodge for pony
trekking and convivial company, Moorosi Chalets for basic but snug
rondavels in a magnificent setting, and Ha Liphapang village for
traditional Basotho huts close to Lesotho's best Bushman paintings.
They're all great value too. Prices range from R85 a person in the
traditional huts at Ha Liphapang to R220 a person sharing an en suite
room at Malealea, Ramabanta or Semonkong" - Alison Westwood
