Menkhoaheng, the birthplace of King Moshoeshoe 1, occupies the same valley. through Spring the valley is pink with peach blossom, while in Summer Malachite Sunbirds feast on the succulents, egrets and ibis feed amongst the cattle, great Herons stalk the river pools, and occasionally a bearded vulture soars. In Autumn crimson cosmos flowers carpet the terraces and in Winter the snow on the highest peaks of the Maluti's gleams like diamonds in the clear air.
